Freestanding narrow media totem
Requirements
A mall developer needed a double-sided portrait totem outside a new wing: 3mm pixel pitch, sunlight-readable in partial canopy shade, stable on polished concrete without floor anchors (landlord restriction), and serviceable from the rear with a single technician.
Build summary
Steel base with hidden ballast trays meets tip tests; column skin is powder-coated aluminum with perforations sized for passive convection. Displays are front-service tiles with magnetic assist; redundant power feeds split left/right face. A hardened player handles 4K vertical loops with watchdog reboot; content updates over VLAN isolated from public Wi‑Fi.
Operations
Cleaning protocol uses non-abrasive pads and approved screen fluid; brightness schedule tracks mall opening hours with holiday overrides. Remote monitoring pings temperature and fan tach; alerts route to the facilities NOC.
Results
Uptime exceeded 99.5% in the first operating year. One fan replacement occurred during planned maintenance; no display tiles failed. Advertiser satisfaction scores cited color accuracy versus their supplied motion masters.
Fabrication to site: 21 days.
