Window-mounted OPEN neon for boutique retail

Context

An independent boutique on a narrow street needed a clear open/closed signal without blocking mannequin sightlines. Municipal rules limited projection beyond the glass; the owner wanted dimming after 22:00 for neighbors above the shop.

Solution

We produced a compact script “Open” with suspended standoffs on low-iron glass using adhesive-free suction cups rated for the sign mass plus wind buffeting when the door opens. Silicone neon simulates classic tube glow; the driver sits in the sill void with a wireless dimmer tied to the store’s smart plug schedule.

Safety and durability

Cable routing uses a flat ribbon through the window gasket channel approved by the installer; no drilling of landlord glass. Pull tests and UV aging samples were documented for the lease file. Spare suction cups ship in the owner’s manual pouch.

Outcome

Evening passersby report improved visibility versus the previous static decal. Dimming eliminated noise complaints; light trespass measurements dropped below the informal threshold the building manager requested.

Install: same-day mount and electrical check.

“It feels like ‘real’ neon without the worry about fragile glass in a busy doorway.” — Owner
